The Cotswolds Kitchen
Our client worked with Sophie Ashby of Studio Ashby on this four year project to completely refurbish her beautiful country house in the Cotswolds. They wanted the open plan kitchen, dining and living space to retain a rustic vibe whilst using contrasting textures, shapes and materials to create a space that is both comfortable and inviting. Planks of textured crown oak were chosen for the kitchen acting as a complete contrast to the industrial looking stainless steel appliances “ a playful juxtaposition putting opposites side by side “ writes Sophie. Diamond quartzite adorns the worktops in another mix of materials, and is also used for the large sink which captures the sunlight from the garden. The base cupboards are handleless adding a contemporary touch, leaving nothing to distract from the beauty of the grain of the wood.

By contrast the large breakfast/ drinks cupboard in the dining area is made from solid sheets of patinated verdigris copper with a figured gold leaf eglomise mirrored back. A piece as practical as it is beautiful.
Finally the walk in pantry is painted in Gui Octobre, a rich yellow, a very useful adjunct to the storage elsewhere in the kitchen.
All in all these three very different looks, harmonise beautifully in a beautifully curated and eclectic mix of textures and colours adding depth and vibrancy to the space . Truly a one off bespoke space which reflects our client’s personality and lifestyle beautifully.
