The Kensington Kitchen
WINNER OF INTERNATIONAL DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE BEST KITCHEN AWARD 2024, design et alOur client undertook a major two year refurbishment of her beautiful Kensington house spanning seven floors, which included the installation of a very necessary lift! "Australian Scandi" was how she described her design aesthetic to Charlie, reflecting the cool simplicity of Scandinavian style, but mixed with the Australian warmth of her native country.
Charlie chose a mixture of pale oak and painted oak cabinets, adding patinated brass accents such as the handles, kickplates and hanging rack illuminating the island. Patinated brass frames also surround the oak drawers and add fine detailing to the cooker hood. Fluted oak panelling forms the back of the island and the breakfast bar, which has a worksurface in Statuario marble with a waterfall edge, adding to the feeling of pared back luxury in this stunning space. The fluted oak detailing is reflected in the sideboard/ drinks cabinet in the dining area, and the TV cabinet in the snug adjoining the kitchen, as well as the tall cupboards flanking the boot area in the hallway, setting a harmonious and quietly luxurious vibe throughout the lower ground floor of the house.
